The mythology of secrets

I am always fascinated with how systematic and chronic abuse trains people to react to the secrets when even a little light is cast onto the pain. Everyone has a role to play – the family’s martyrs, sophists, pundits, revisionists and secret keepers all circle the wagons and begin their dance regardless of how cruel and horrible the actual secret is to begin with. They become co-conspirators against the world using gossip, anger, contempt, spin and innuendo to take the focus off the truth.

It is also what keeps the mythologies alive generation after generation after generation.

Wounds heal only after they are treated.

The irony is I don’t even care about the secrets but secrets are so powerful people end up missing the point so intent on shading the secret from even the most innocuous of light.
